Silwood was arrested following posting a comment on a Facebook group in January 2021 that said that Sawyers should really be awarded the “Baboon D’Or.”
The comment was a racist pun based on the Ballon d’Or or Golden Boot, which is an annual award provided to the world’s very best footballer.
Sawyers explained to Walsall Magistrates’ Court that looking at Silwood’s comment has brought on him to truly feel “harassed, alarmed and distressed.”
In a statement released previously now, Sawyers claimed: “This is an incident that has influenced me deeply, but I would like to persuade fellow gamers to report all racial abuse to the law enforcement.”
Silwood claimed that he had penned the phrase “buffoon” and autocorrect had improved it to “baboon,” but he was convicted of sending an offensive concept less than the Communications Act in a trial that ended on September 9.
Before today, a judge at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court sentenced Silwood to eight months in jail and ordered him to shell out a £128 victim surcharge and a complete of £1,000 in fees and payment.
The judge advised the courtroom: “There is no area for racial abuse.”
Sawyers stated now that he has donated the compensation to a nearby West Midlands charity. He described: “It is critical to me to turn this destructive practical experience into some thing favourable.”
The 29-yr-aged footballer thanked the supporter who came ahead and described the abuse and expressed his gratitude to the police who investigated the subject.
Sawyers then termed on social media organizations to make a bigger work to hold racist abuse off their platforms.
“It is widely approved that social media businesses will have to do far more to stop the publication of racism on their platforms,” claimed Sawyers. “I yet again urge them to consider the necessary action essential to prevent anybody from obtaining the abuse I seasoned.”
West Bromwich Albion – the group supported by Silwood – have banned the convicted criminal from attending matches for the relaxation of his existence.
