A ransomware team has reportedly donated thousands of pounds stolen from company victims to charities.
The DarkSide group claimed to have created a $10,000 donation in Bitcoins to two charities: The Drinking water Challenge and Children Intercontinental. The latter has previously said it will not be trying to keep the income, which by legislation it has to do as the funds are technically the proceeds of crime.
Ironically, if the ransomware group experienced held silent about the donation then the businesses would most likely have been none the wiser. The team, which is stated also to steal victims’ facts in buy to drive them to spend up, apparently made use of legit US-based digital donation system The Providing Block to channel the cash to the charities.
