The news of the hack comes amid a string of substantial-profile attacks concentrating on NVIDIA, Samsung, Mercado Libre, and Vodafone in recent months. While the extortionist gang LAPSUS$ claimed responsibility for these attacks, it can be not straight away obvious if the group is guiding the Ubisoft breach as nicely.

Technology news web-site The Verge, which 1st noted the growth, explained that the felony team appeared to ensure their involvement, despite the fact that it bears noting that LAPSUS$ has not been vocal about using credit score like it did in the other circumstances.

Unlike other ransomware teams that steal and encrypt proprietary information for a ransom, LAPSUS$ extorts the targets by plundering the sensitive knowledge and holding it hostage, and threatening with leakage should their requires be not fulfilled.
