A Russian cyber-criminal has been despatched to jail in the United States for defrauding American corporations out of hundreds of thousands of bucks.
Aleksandr Zhukov ran a sophisticated digital advertising and marketing rip-off by means of purported advertising and marketing network Media Methane. In June, he was convicted of wire fraud conspiracy, wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and revenue laundering.

“Rather than location adverts on genuine publishers’ web web pages in which human internet buyers would see them, Zhukov rented additional than 2,000 personal computer servers housed in professional datacenters in Dallas, Texas, Amsterdam and the Netherlands, and programmed the datacenter laptop or computer servers (the “bots”) to simulate people viewing advertisements on webpages,” stated the US Attorney’s Office environment for the Jap District of New York in a statement released Wednesday.
The criminals programmed the bots to load legitimate advertisements on blank web pages and then deceived their victims into believing that the ads have been loading on authentic web-sites.
Zhukov and his co-conspirators spoofed the domains of more than 6,000 publishers, such as the New York Situations, the New York Submit, the New York Everyday Information, Newsday, and the Staten Island Progress.
Victims of the fraud contain the Texas Scottish Ceremony Hospital for Kids and home names Nestle Purina and Time Warner Cable.
Zhukov and his co-conspirators stole more than $7m as a result of the scam, which they ran between September 2014 and December 2016.
On November 10, Zhukov was sentenced to 10 many years in prison and requested to pay out $3,827,493 in forfeiture.
Zhukov’s Methbot was initially discovered by HUMAN (previously White Ops) in 2016.
