Marine Charged with Cyber-Stalking

A serving member of the United States Maritime Corp has been charged with cyber-stalking young females in California.

Lance Corporal Johao Miguel Chavarri allegedly posed as a married underwater welder from New York City to stalk at least six victims and threaten them into sharing individually compromising photos and movie articles with him. 

Chavarri is accused of demanding nude images, sexually specific videos and images, and pics of his alleged victims toes.

The alleged victims of the 25-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine are all reportedly linked in some way to his dwelling town of Torrance, situated in Los Angeles County, California.

In accordance to a prison complaint, Chavarri produced various online accounts beneath the alias Michael Frito involving 2019 and 2021 and utilised them to wage a sextortion marketing campaign.

Chavarri is accused of frequently stalking, harassing and threatening gals for extended intervals. In some cases, the sextortion needs he allegedly manufactured ongoing for around a calendar year. 

According to the criticism, Chavarri explained to many victims that he would publish sexual shots and films of them on line or upload them to very well-recognized pornography websites except they complied with his calls for. Chavarri is also accused of threatening to disseminate compromising illustrations or photos of his victims to the victims’ romantic associates, friends, family members or businesses, whom he would normally recognize by identify. 

“As alleged, Chavarri also produced phony social media accounts mimicking some of the victims’ names and despatched harassing messages to some of the victims’ mates and family members users,” said the Section of Justice’s Business of General public Affairs.

“One message sent by Chavarri to various victims by using Instagram mentioned that he would devote his “whole everyday living ruining their life.”

Chavarri, a resident of Oceanside, was arrested on February 8 on a federal charge of cyber-stalking. He manufactured his preliminary visual appeal prior to the Los Angeles federal court on February 9.

The courtroom introduced Chavarri on a bond of $30,000. The terms of his release incorporated site monitoring and travel limits.

Chavarri’s arraignment is scheduled for March 8. If convicted of cyber-stalking, he could provide a greatest sentence of five yrs in federal prison.
