The US Division of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Property Handle (OFAC) has issued sanctions against Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) and its Minister of Intelligence for allegedly partaking in cyber–enabled functions towards the US and its allies.

“MOIS was earlier specified pursuant to Govt Orders 13224, 13472, and 13553 for its assistance to a number of terrorist groups and for being accountable for, or complicit in, the commission of major human rights abuses against the Iranian persons.”
Additionally, under Esmail Khatib’s leadership, the MOIS would have directed many networks of cyber danger actors involved in cyber–espionage and ransomware attacks in assist of Iran’s political goals.
