Western Electronic is asking prospects to disconnect My E-book Live tricky drives from the internet to stop malware from wiping them of data.
Hackers appeared to be having benefit of a vulnerability 1st posted in 2019. Western Digital stopped supporting My Dwell drives in 2015, and have not up to date their firmware given that then.
“Western Digital has established that some My Ebook Stay and My Reserve Reside Duo equipment are becoming compromised by way of exploitation of a distant command execution vulnerability. In some instances, this compromise has led to a manufacturing facility reset that appears to erase all details on the device,” the enterprise wrote Thursday.
The issue came to light-weight as My E book Live and My Reserve Stay Duo people flooded firm boards with complaints their drives experienced failed.
“I am fully screwed without having that data…years of it,” wrote a person person.
