Russian govt officials will no longer be equipped to use messaging apps made and run by overseas companies, according to a new regulation which went into drive yesterday.

Pieces 8–10 of Post 10 of the new law – On Info, Details Systems and Information Safety – apply to federal government organizations and companies.

“The law establishes a ban for a number of Russian corporations on the use of overseas messengers (details techniques and laptop systems owned by overseas individuals that are created and (or) utilised for exchanging messages completely concerning their end users, in which the sender decides the recipients of messages and does not provide for placement by internet end users publicly readily available details on the internet),” explained regulator Roskomnadzor.

The solutions shown as portion of the ban are: Discord, Microsoft Groups, Skype for Organization, Snapchat, Telegram, Threema, Viber, WhatsApp and WeChat.
