The US Treasury Office imposed sanctions on Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) and its Minister of Intelligence for their job in the July cyber attack versus Albania, a NATO member condition that is a shut ally of the US.
Unbeknownst to some, the MOIS has been under scrutiny for a long time.
“Considering the fact that at minimum 2007, the MOIS and its cyber actor proxies have carried out malicious cyber operations focusing on a range of government and non-public-sector corporations around the planet and across numerous critical infrastructure sectors,” the Treasury Dept’s Business office of Foreign Belongings Management (OFAC) stated.

Next the attack, Key Minister Edi Rama severed diplomatic ties with Iran and requested all embassy employees to leave in 24 hrs. Iran also faced criticism for its “reckless cyber attacks” from the US governing administration, NATO, and the UK.
The US Cyber Command experienced previously officially connected the Iranian-backed MuddyWatter danger group to MOIS. The MOIS has also been related with APT39, an Iranian cyber-espionage group that is identified to have conducted surveillance operations aligned with Iranian interests given that November 2014.
