“Between May 2020 and January 2021, the defendant victimized 17 Canadian entities and many others throughout the earth by breaching private personal computer networks and devices, hi-jacking their information, holding the stolen information for ransom and distributing stolen knowledge when ransoms were being not paid out,” Justice G.P. Renwick said in February.

For context, NetWalker has been energetic since 2019, with the team offering its malware to danger actors in a ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) product.
