The family of a teenage woman from Florida who was arrested and detained about cyber-threats she did not make is suing her former college and Meta.

Pembroke Pines Police Section (PPPD) arrested the 13-12 months-outdated in November 2021 for “making a composed threat to do bodily harm or dedicate an act of terrorism” and billed her with a 2nd-degree felony.

An investigation was introduced right after threatening messages have been sent to college students and staff members at Renaissance Constitution College at Pine by using Instagram on November 18.

The threats were being claimed to the PPPD on November 19. The school was placed on a code-yellow alert, restricting motion in reaction to the threats.

“Our Danger Evaluation Workforce was promptly deployed to look into the incident and eventually recognized, and arrested, a 13-calendar year-outdated female who is a former student at Renaissance Constitution College,” stated the PPPD on November 19. 

The woman, who is from Miramar, spent 11 days in juvenile detention. The demand from her was afterwards dropped.

The PPPD allege that the relatives of the falsely accused female “did not cooperate with investigators” throughout the November investigation.
